WANDERING ALBATROSS Diomedea exulans

A 'Great Albatross', the largest length: 115 cm (45 inches), of the huge oceanic albatrosses'. Follows ships, travelling great distances by dynamic soaring on stiff narrow wings. Pelagic when not breeding, they may live for up to 50 years. Many, however, drown due to long- line fishing.

Circumpolar in the Southern Ocean, roughly between 20°S and 50°S . Breeds on northern Antarctic islands, particularly South Georgia, Prince Edward, Marion, Crozet and similar islands.
